The Organization Design Forum invites you to clear your calendar for April 14 thru April 16 and plan to attend our 2004 annual conference at the historic Palmer House in Chicago, IL. The theme for this year's conference is "Benchmarking the Future of Organization Design"

Our 2004 conference aspires to look at the ‘best of the best’ in organization design – the benchmarks that we can all learn from so we as organization designers can better contribute to the success of our organizations.We will be addressing questions such as:

- Who is doing organization design today?

- What companies/organizations excel at organization design, and use it for competitive advantage?

- As we get greater complexity and scope in the designs of our businesses with global structures, cross-organization designs, and complex networks of partnering organization - What are the benchmark designs that work and why?

- What are the benchmark practices for developing skills and learning in the people who are doing the design and implementation work?


Confirmed speakers include:

  • Dick Axelrod - leading a session on "How To Do Wonders With An Idea: Building Creativity and Commitment Into The Design Process"

  • Barry Johnson - Designing an Organization to Explicitly Manage its many Polarities (Paradoxes, Dilemmas)

  • Eamonn Molloy of Said Business School, Oxford, England - sharing the emerging research findings of a survey of 800+ CEOs & HR professionals on the process and success factors of organization design "Organising for Success in 21C"

  • Paul Tolchinsky - leading a session on complexity and organization design

  • Stu Winby - former H-P Director leading a session on design issues for mergers and acquisitions and sharing his experience as a member of the HP - Compaq integration team

The Organization Design Forum is once again proud to offer a 1-day pre-conference, "Creating the Design Organization". This provides a robust 7-step process for creating a high performing organization with sustainable competitive advantage.

Conference Fees:

  • The full conference fee is $785 for existing members of the Organization Design Forum.
  • For non-members the fee is $895 for non-members. This includes 2004 membership of the Forum.
  • And where 2 or more people from the same organization enroll, there is a further discount of $50 per person.

PLEASE – When making reservations, indicate that you will be attending the Organization Design Forum (ODF) 2004 Annual Conference. Conference room rates will be $169/night.

Travel Arrangements:

 United Airlines is the official airline of the 2004 Annual Conference-ODF. If you or your travel agent call United's toll-free number (1-800-521-4041) to book your reservations, you will receive a 5% discount off the lowest applicable discount fare, including First Class or a 10% discount off full fare unrestricted coach fares, purchased 7 days in advance. An additional 5% discount will apply when tickets are purchased at least 30 days in advance of your travel date. Discounts also apply on shuttle by United and United Express.

Call United's Specialized Meeting Reservations Center at 1-800-521-4041 to obtain the best fares and schedule information. Make sure you refer to Meeting ID Number 522AC. Dedicated reservation agents are on duty 7 days a week from 8:00 AM to 10:00 pm EST.

The travel period is from April 9th through April 20th, 2004.

From O'Hare International Airport: Distance from hotel: 18 miles Drive time: 35-60 minutes Directions: Follow signs for I-190 out of airport. Take I-190 to I-90/94 east (Kennedy Expressway). Take I-90/94 to Monroe Street exit, turn left on Monroe Street (East). Approximately 8 blocks to The Palmer House Hotel. Hotel is on right. (Discount parking is available)

Bus service, typical minimum charge is USD $17.00. Limousine service available.

Super Shuttle available. Subway/Rail, typical minimum charge is USD $1.50. Taxi, typical minimum charge is USD $35.00.

From Midway Airport: Distance from hotel: 12 miles Drive time: 30-45 minutes Directions: North on Cicero Avenue. Take Stevenson Expressway (I-55) Northeast to Kennedy Expressway (I-90) West. Exit Monroe Street, turn right (East), 8 blocks to The Palmer House Hilton. Hotel is on the right.

Bus service, typical minimum charge is USD $12.00. Limousine service available.

Subway/Rail, typical minimum charge is USD $1.50.

Taxi, typical minimum charge is USD $25.00.

Cancellation & Refunds:

 All registrations are subject to a non-refundable registration fee of $100. Registrants will be charged an additional late cancellation fee of $150 (total of $250) if their cancellations are received after Friday, April 4 (10 working days before the conference). No-show's are liable for the full fee. Substitutions may be made at no charge. Please make cancellations or requests for substitutions in writing byfax or email.
